Latvia’s e-Invoicing Journey

Type: Draft Legislation

Latvia is set to implement mandatory e-invoicing by 2025, adopting the PEPPOL standard for consistent and secure document management.

Since April 2020, government transactions tied to public procurement must comply with EU Directive 2014/55/EU, mandating the use of electronic invoices.

The 2025 mandate underscores alignment with EU specifications for e-invoices, compelling state and local institutions to accept electronic invoices meeting these criteria.

These changes aim to streamline Latvia’s invoicing system in accordance with broader EU directives, enhancing efficiency in electronic transactions.

Businesses operating in Latvia should prepare for this transition, embracing the advantages of a more efficient and digitally advanced invoicing ecosystem.

Effective date: 2025
